Final Project Check In

The beginning phases of my Final Project consist of the following: finding and aggregating relevant pixel art in Canva, brainstorming game scenarios, and watching YouTube videos of 2D-style nostalgic games such as Legend of Zelda and Super Mario, which have been useful in inspiring both game scenarios and a game interface design. Below are several slides from Canva which feature a few of the pixel art graphics I have collected, along with four slides (last four below) I have designed and are in early stages of formulating the player’s journey and scenario objectives. All of the graphics below are from Canva, with the exception of the “Start Game” font, which I downloaded from Creative Market.

Two of the main challenges I currently face in this project are A) not portraying men as purely predatory, along with not portraying the experience of women as one of constant threat and paranoia, and B) how to not just mimic the act of commuting and the predatory pitfalls women may face in doing so, but rather simulating the feeling of these various scenarios. How do I convey a feeling of “threat”? Will the player have one objective throughout the game, or various objectives in different scenarios? Will there be “rewards”? How do I incorporate real news stories of assault into the game? Will these news stories be clickable links? How will they be accessed?
